“Sometimes in life, we like to do something that gives purpose and meaning – a simple smile can become a key part of their lives making them feel more alive.”
My schedule for the last week of May was already plotted in the calendar day with tons of work to do. The idea was to maximize more what I can do and to allot those surprise itinerary that comes along the way. It would always be a back-up plan in everything that we do – to anticipate the unexpected.
Just what I thought, I got a sudden invite to visit Mind Museum, not to amaze around on the science knowledge that comes alive but an enriching experience to serve as a volunteered “kuya” and “ate” to join with group of children in their tour. Sometimes challenging oneself for volunteered work also gives an insight of opportunity for self-reflection.
Who am I to turn it down?
Together with blogger colleagues and GMA artists attended by Anna Karenina cast headed by Joyce Ching, Barbie Forteza, Krystal Reyes graced the event of Children’s Hour at the Mind Museum to spend time with 220 children from various socially oriented organizations in Region 3.
Considering those teen Kapuso stars were already busy with their schedule, giving time with the children to cheer them up were a boost of added summer excitement – that is to experience practical exhibits about atom, earth, life, universe, and technology at the Mind Museum. I will definitely have a separate post about my sci-fi experience with Mind Museum.
With Children’s Hour, through its program A+ which stands for Arts and Athletics is providing creative and educational experiences for indigent children. It aims also to give unprivileged Filipino children a day of fun-filled activities complimented with exposure to arts, science and culture.
After the tour, a simple program is also organized where GMA artists gave an encourage and inspirational words to the children. I was also amazed to see children shared their talents despite their disabilities – a blind child who can sing his heart out and a dance number of a deaf child with lot of movements.
Truly, it was a cultivated experience that is not only satisfied with science and discovery but assisting to see those children with GMA Kapuso stars was an adorn gesture to do.
Sometimes in life, we like to do something that gives purpose and meaning – a simple smile from one of those children can become a key part of their lives making them feel more alive.
Thanking the cast of Anna Karenina in taking a break and make this happen to the lives of the children for one day.
